has anyone encountered replacing the dash air pump on a cummins 5.9B in a Breakaway? My air man says they cannot located one with a flat clutch as the one that came out. The old clutch froze up. Is it possible to shim the fan blades out 1/2 inch?
Thanks

re you referring to the A/C compressor? If so, Mine has a double belt but only uses a single belt on the front "V" groove. If the new compressor only has a single belt drive clutch, then I can see where the trouble would be, the compressor would have to be moved rearward to line uip with the fan pulley.

If whatever your guy is doing requires that the fan be moved 1/2 inch, I see no reason that can not be done. There is plenty of room between the radiator and fan, just don't get the fan to far inside the shroud or you will loose the effects of the shroud.

Again all this is assuming you are referring to the A/C compressor.

Any pictures?

HI Ed,
Yes, it is the air conditioning compressor. The original had 1 pulley and the new one has one pulley and the engine has one pulley. The old compessor had a flat front clutch and the new one has 1'2 in. protrusions for the rubber cushions on the clutch. My air guy says he cannot get the old style flat front clutch. I am going to call Spartan in the morning to see what they have. I hate to move the fan out as I may need longer fan bolts, and I don't want to pull the radiator.
Thanks,
Darrell

My clutch is right at the edge of the shroud and has hit the shroud as there are marks made by the compressor clutch. You are right, the fan is VERY close to the clutch and I would agree not to use longer bolts as the fan is VERY heavy and already is on an extension.

I talk with my A/C guy and see if he has any ideas, if he does, I will pass it along to you.

Hi Ed,
I spoke with Spartan and they didn't put the air on the coach, so they have no idea what to do. The new compressor came with a clutch and it protrudes about 1/4 to 1/2 inch further and it hit the fan blade. I really appreciate your help on this matter.
Thanks, Darrell
