Returning from a weekend trip pulling a MX trailer I notice my turn indicators are not lighting when the turn signal arm is in either the "Left" or "Right" turn position. Running lt.s OK. Brake lt.s OK. I unplug the trailer, same results. Today I go out to move the coach (30" '92 Breakaway)and decide to turn on the emergency flashers for the heck of it...They work. Outside lights flash, inside turn indicators are flashing normally. I turn the hazards off. I back out of my driveway, do a U-turn, and head down the street. I flip on the left turn signal...its working. Right turn signal is working....Anybody want to explain what just happened? PS: I have noticed my lower taillight lens (the lowest one from top to bottom) sometimes doesn't light with the running lt.s on. (long time like this) I tap the lens and it comes on. I think I just need to clean a socket or something....related? I don't think so...what do you think? weak flasher?
I would check grounds and connections for all lights first. For grounds, I like a long wire with an alligator clip on each end. One end to negative battery post, the other to the light in question, as close to the base of the bulb as possible. If the jumper improves anything, the light has a poor ground.

Your hazards lights should have its on flasher,Your turn signals should have it on flasher,I would change the flasher for the turn signals.Hope this help.

First problem (of many) with our 92 Breakaway was the problem you describe. When you tilt the steering wheel for entry/exit it can cause the platic cover to rub slightly on the emergency switch. The switch apparantly first disconnects the turn signals and then, when a little further out, connects the flasher circuitry. I slightly enlarged the cutout which surrounds the ermergency flasher switch to keep it from rubbing and never had the problem return in the six years since. Hope this helps.

Hi Hank, thanks for sharing the info, it sounds like the exact same thing that happened to me. After I turned the emergency flashers on (to see if they would flash) and back off....the turn signals started to work again. Ever since the problem hasn't occured again. I'll take your suggestion and make the adjustment....Anyone know what that orange arrow stands for?
Sometime the turnsignal flasher is light duty and when you add the extra bulb on the trailer it causes the flasher to get too hot and doesn't work proper. When you unplug the towed trailer it will work proper. You can buy a heavy duty flasher to fix the problem.
