Batteries Going Dead Again
I actually posted this before and decided to replace my power converter/charger and bought 2 brand new batteries for starting the ol generator up and now after running it for an extended period of time...coming home and plugging into shore at the house...went to crank the gen and ...nothing...had to jump it off with the coach battery...any ideas to check farther? My batteries are about 4 weeks old and the power converter replce about 3 weeks ago. I'm afraid its back to the mechanic to see what this is about. I run my generator about 4 or 5 hours a day when I do and somehow it is NOT charging back the batery so today I ran a battery charger to the batteries (it was acutally plugged into the power the gen was producing and it got me through the day.........any feedback will be appreciated.........Gorman

The first thing to check is that the converter is getting 120VAC. If so, next check to see that it's outputting ~14VDC.

I don't know what year your Barth is, but if an older dual-output converter were replaced with a modern single-output, the old battery charger section has to be jumped. The dual-output had one circuit to run the coach 12VDC house circuits and another to charge the house batteries. If replaced with a single-output, which keeps the battery charged while the battery powers everything, and the battery charge circuit isn't connected, you'll get this effect.

Rusty, My Barth is a 1995 23 foot and I just turned about 16,000 miles on it and 900 hours on the gen. It is like a new one....haha but I will check this out and see if I messed something up It had just started doing this lately It ran for months with no problem. I do use my Barth as a mobile office and sometimes go on a location for 5 hours at a time and run off gen. Today I went to location and pushed the start and ...nothing even with the new deep cuycle batteries...so I will check that out thanks

More than likely, your Barth had a single-output converter, so the wiring would be set up for that, but worth a check.

On shore power or generator the converter output should be straightforward (straight from the converter to the batteries; no relays or isolator).

Might check your switch, my remote starter switch sometimes will not start the genny so i have to go out and hit the switch on the genny itself. Acts just like a dead or low start battery but probably just a loose wire. I hardly ever use the genny so i never think to track it down. Smiler
