Recently I had a need to switch the compartment heater on and found it took two times for the switch over the door in my Regency to energize the pilot light. On the second try I noticed a dim spark from the switch so I took it apart and measured the power being switched. I found it was switching full 15 amps to the compartment heater fan that protects the water compartment (and the others as well). I immediately ordered a replacement and also looked at the same switch in the kitchen that controls the power to the water heater. No spark there but it also switches full 10-15 amps. If for some reason one's propane sniffer were to fail and any propane were to leak from the refrigerator or furnaces any spark could be disastrous. It seems to me these should both be converted to relays that would switch them using 12v with the relays mounted close to the appliances. The wiring would not be much of a change and it would add a significant measure of safety to the system. We could also downgrade the switch to a much smaller type eliminating a large wall switch.
