This is probably a very stupid question for most of you ..... I want to replace the AM/FM/Cassette device in the center of the dash board with a new unit. How do I remove the dash board to get to the back? It appears the dash board is single piece of molded fiberglass mounted with a steel framework on each side. This isn't a very good photo, only covers part of the dash, it's all I had. Kim 1976 Barth 21' HAM Call: AC7YY

my Breakaway has a dash access panel above gauge panel...you might have to re and re stereo by just pulling it straight out bringing the wiring and antenna along with it (most car stereos are done this way) good luck Bob and Jan Orr Canadian Barth owners 94 30ft. Like Bob said, start pulling knobs and plates and you should be able to remove the unit from the front. Also, that broken piece of crap turn signal-speed control lever will necessitate removing the steering wheel and the horn plate directly under it. Get the puller from any parts house that lends tools. It's just a screw holding the lever in. Since I don't have cruise anymore, I went to the Pik & Pull and found a lever on an old van for 2 bucks and now I can keep my arm in the coach again. The levers without the cruise are solid billet type, as opposed to the pot metal 2 piece junk used for the factory [or hang on] cruise control. 79 Barth Classic

Thanks Danny and Bob Mine is a 1976 and doesn't have a panel access that I can see. The old radio is held in place from the front. I can remove the knobs, washer and nuts and the radio would fall inside. But I can't get to it because of the air conditioner unit. That "piece of crap" speed control actually works, I think I will just use a wire tie to hold it to turn signal which also works just fine kim 1976 Barth 21' HAM Call: AC7YY

If you remove the speedometer gauge cluster you can reach around the back of the radio to loosen the connections. There is usually one screw holding a metal perforated strap from the back of the radio to the steel rail at the bottom of the radio. Once that is removed you should be able to push it forward. As another option just buy the new radio at Car Toys and have them install it for $25 Good Luck 1993 32' Regency Wide Body, 4 speed Allison Trans, Front Entry door, Diamond Plate aluminum roof & 1981 Euro 22' w Chevy 350 engine and TH 400 tranny

Oops, my bad! I saw the controller hanging there and figured it was like mine and had busted off at the steering column. And it WORKS?! WOW! 79 Barth Classic

Mine used to look like yours but i removed it totally and have made it in 3 pieces so it comes out in 3 sections, I am still working on it but there will never be another on like it. Will post pictures when it is complete. it is fiberglass attached to steel frame work and Quite a chore to remove, mine had air cond but that stays in and the dash comes out around it. Used to be the same color as yours until the previous owner dyed it light Blue. If I can help let me know mine is a 79 28' and i know them very well this is my 3rd and hopefully last one. Hi Richard I would really like to see your photo's. I thought about doing something like you are doing, but I thought maybe the one piece unit was structurally required. For a temporary fix, I am mounting the new unit in one of the upper cabinets near the sink. I wired the two speakers on each side of the motorhome. Kim 1976 Barth 21' HAM Call: AC7YY
