I got a registration hold for my Breakaway '90 barth from Ca DMV. From what I can glean on the net, I am in need a a PSIP (Periodic Smoke Inspection Program -for diesels prior to 2013) test before my renewal goes thru. I had found in the past that I was exempt, but now it seems, not-so-much..

here's a link that gives some info: CA CARB rules for 2023/4

anybody else in CA get this notice or have gone thru this testing by chance for DMV renewal? It won't be a problem to have it tested regularly as it will pass but becoming a hassle, at least for me..

I don't drive it enough (being a couple years short of 80 Smiler so even though I have only 40K miles, may have to let it go..sooner rather than later..bummer !

Thanks,

****

follow-up: Got a reply back from CARB..I will just have to pay the $30 CARB fee currently and the DMV hold will be lifted.. mandatory testing begins in 2025.. a slight respite..

Only a matter of time. head bang I hope you are able to remain compliant as long as you need your coach.

I have not heard any rumors of changes here in Michigan so hopefully I can grandfather my coach in for a long time.

Good luck Mechanic
