We just completed a 3000 mile round trip. We pulled in for the night about every 300-400 miles. Each time I had to put in a quart of oil. It does not appear to be burning oil but it does leak a few little drips when parked. Any suggestions on where the oil is going?

Do you check your oil right after you shut down or before you start up in the AM? It is important you always check oil at the same operation point.

If you are full in the AM before you start, after everything is running and warm and then you check the oil it will be 1+/- quart lower as the oil is now circulated around the engine and will again settle after the engine is shut down for awhile.

A quart every 300-400 miles is a lot of usage. Have you determined where the drips is coming from? Check at the bottom of the bell housing, there is a hole there and will let oil out if the rear main seal of the engine is leaking.

Rear main seals of these engines, both the 5.9L and 8.3L have been problems. On my 5.9L the seal came out in 5 pieces, and I was using about 1 quart every 200-300 miles.

The threaded hole next to the bell housing appears dry. The oil appears to be coming off the part in the photo below. I believe that it is the oil pump is that correct? How difficult is that to replace?

Not sure but think that pump is the power steering hydraulic pump. Unless it is leaking at the seal between it and the engine it would not be the cause of engine oil leakage.
