3208TA Cat Diesel Alternator Size?
Does anyone have an idea of how big (amps) the alternator is on a 1990 Regency w/ a 300HP 3208TA Cat? Someone told me they thought it was a 120Amp alternator but it looks quite a bit bigger than that. Thanks, Bill

If able, let me know ASAP, I'd like to buy something on eBay early Thursday morning (06:55 Mountain) but I can't without knowing the alternator size.

You might try getting your alternater repaired. The charging needle on mine started jumping and new brushes at the repair shop only set me back $35. Check the yellow pages under auto repair and look for electrical shops. Repairs on these big rig alternaters is usually much cheaper than replacement.
Good luck!

The alternator works great, I want to get a new isolator and relay.

According to Gillig, I have a 160 amp alternator. I checked with a local RV service center (coach only) and they advised the original type of isolator is no longer made and that the replacement only costs $19 as opposed to as much as $200 for the old style. I am still seeing the "old style" isolator in the stores and on eBay. He described my isolator perfectly and re-affirmed that I don't need that type any longer. Any ideas out there? I'm thinking about taking my old one out and having this particular service center look at it.

I have a 1990 Regency with, what appears-to-be the same blue-in-color isolator. I am at work, so I can't quote the Make or Manufacturer, but the "look" appears to be the same.

Please post what you find-out about a new or different isolator, as I feel mine is suspect as well.

My '95 Gillig chassis has a Gillig-supplied 160Amp alternator and a Country Coach installed 190-amp isolator. (Happens to be blue in color too.)

Search 'battery isolator' on eBay. Around $100 with shipping for a 200Amp version.

On Saturday morning I went to Dee's RV here in Colorado Springs to have them look at my isolator and see this new type they had. I didn't want to take the old isolator out so I drove the coach down to have them take a look. Of course nobody there took my phone call (note to self: write down names!) This ended up being the second wild goose chase they have sent me on in as many weeks. It didn't end their and I should have seen it coming! The guy at the counter felt bad that I had driven all the way over for nothing so he called around and found NAPA had what I needed. Their isolators were in the 120 amp and up range and would certainly handle a 160 amp alternator. Wrong! I drove over to the Napa only to find their only isolator was a 120 amp max. I'm new at this RV stuff but I do try and let my fingers do the walking before I waste fuel by driving, especially at todays fuel prices.

The Barth is now in for service and one of the items on the list is for the isolator. They tell me that is more of a coach issue and should be handled by the RV service centers. The RV service centers all say it should be fixed by the chassis service centers. I doubt this is more than a few minutes of work so it has become a towerguy repair issue. I am becoming a bit concerned about service here in Colorado Springs.

Well, I can certainly get the isolator on eBay as mentioned by Relative, I've already submitted offers on a couple but I was hoping to get one locally.
