Ok, I'm admitting defeat. I attempted the low beam headlight relay install described by someone, 8/19/06. Sorry I can't find the original post. Also referred to Rusty's post.
But now when I turn on the headlights, all of the lights flash once every 5 seconds, w/ sound of a relay clicking off.
This is on a 1992 Breakaway.
Per Rusty's post Came off of terminal #46 headlamp for power to relay post #30, #69 from switch to post #86, post #87 to low beam headlights, post #85 to ground.
Tried reversing my way back out of this, but the lights still flash.
I think I've missed something. D'oh
Any help would be greatly appreciated -
Thanks Ric

I'm not sure about the setup on your DP but the Regals, and many others, have a thermal circuit breaker built into the headlight switch. Rather than blow a fuse when the lights overload and leave us in the dark for good, the circuit breaker will trip. It resets and repeats as long as the circuit is overloaded.

Sometimes these get out of spec and will trip on and off with normal load.

One of the reasons for the relay setup is to bypass the light switch, allowing the switch to power just the relay, while the relay delivers full current to the bulbs.

Are you still bringing the power for the relay through the light switch or do you have a separate full power source? The only wire direct from the light switch is the one to the relay coil. The power wire should come from a seperate robust source.

I will check the terminal #s on a relay, I'll see if I can find a problem.

Your relay connections are correct: switch to post 86, through relay, 85 to ground.

Power out through 87 to lights, power in through 30. Thumbs Up

I suspect your problem is "terminal #46" the source of power… Not sure what terminal 46 normally does but it appears the headlight load is tripping its breaker.

Be sure you have a good heavy source of power for relay terminal 30 and it should work correctly.

Thanks Steve
I'll look into it later today. I thought #46 was the headlight power, but I could be wrong. Thermal switch sounds right as it just keeps popping off.
Thanks Again - Ric

Ric,

If this happened only after your relay installation you might take a very close look at the terminal connections for shorts. I can imagine a lug being positioned improperly or a "widow maker" loose strand that is touching ground or another wire. Like Steve said the thermal breaker will trip and reset as it cools and if you have a short the pattern you described will happen.

I have done this very modification and it works well.
