fuel injection hose clamps
Does anybody know where I can get fuel injection hose clamps larger than those commonly used for 3/8" ID hose? I bought the marine hose from West Marine but the OD is 5/8" for the 5/16" ID, and 3/4" for the 3/8" hose. I've spent maybe 5 hours on the internet and can't find any supplier for the FI clamps. Everyone has the barrel style, cage clamps, but the clamping pressure is not even and the serrations in the band eat into the rubber. I know these things used to be made because my '73 Volvo has them. But that was '73.

The clamping pressure gets more even if you do the hammer thing I described in an earlier post. The pressure will also be more even if you use a narrower band than the typical heater hose size worm clamp. And, putting another clamp on the hose right next to it, clocked 90 to 180 degrees apart will compensate somewhat.

Have you been able to find the worm clamps that have a smooth band overlapping inside to protect the hose from the thread slots? Airplane suppliers have them. So does McMaster-Carr.

In a pinch, I have used a little sheet metal or a piece cut from another clamp to protect a delicate hose from the slots in the clamp.

Have you considered Oeteker clamps? They maintain clamping force due to their ability to expand as a hose assembly is subjected to temperature cycling. Worm-drive clamps can't expand and, therefore, force the hose material to extrude away from the clamp area during a heat cycle. After several heat cycles, the installation can lose most of its clamping force.

Have you considered Corbin-style clamps? They are also constant-tension.

Page 251 of the current McMaster Carr catalog has some nifty constant-tension worm drive clamps that have a liner to protect the outside of the hose .

My local store has had 'em, but it's a long-established place, and quite large. That's not to say the typical NAPA place would have the clamps, nor even know how to get them.
