I'm new with my 1990 Breakaway and was wondering about the hydraulic jacks. What happens if, when leaving a campground, one or more of your levelling fail to retract. Do we have a mechanical back-up method? I noticed in one of the compartment that I have a crank that is about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. Is that what you use? if so, how? Same question for the electric step. Any mechanical back-up plan? Real, do a search on this site for hwh levelers and you can find a manual for your jacks. not sure how yours work but mine just manualy push up when they fail to retract. again somewhere on the search site are directions to raise the steps by hand. mike foster 83-35' regency 8.2 detroit towing 98 cherokee classic 4x4

No jack experience, but if you have Kwikee steps, there are several ways to get them up, depending on the failure mode. However, the most common cause of step problems are low battery voltage, corroded connections, and a bad ground. Run the engine at a high idle to assure good voltage. If no help, clean the ground connection and the other connectors. If the control box or a switch has failed, disconnect the two wire connecter going to the motor. Ground one wire and apply a hot jumper to the other. One polarity will raise them, one will lower them, so you have a 50% chance of success the first time and a 100% chance the second time. If the motor or gearbox fails, there is an arm that raises and lowers the steps. There is a clevis pin that is held in by a cotter key. Remove them and raise the step and wire it up with baling wire or a coat hangar. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered

And most Kwikee steps use a Ford window-lift motor, so if that fails, a junkyard is likely to have one. Raymag: The crank you refer to may be the rod used to pull down your awning (if you have one)... Keep trying,it gets better as you go........ "THE TOY" 88 33' Regal SE Coach #3448 Former owner of "THE TOY" 1988 Barth Regal SE 33' Tag 1992 Barth Breakaway 32' 2005 Coachmen Mirada 32' DS
