I heard or read recently that an electrical fuel pump will save on fuel over a mechanical fuel pump.

Any truth to this?

Nothing that can be measured. In either case, the engine is burning fuel to pump the fuel, either mechanically or by turning the alternator to make electricity. There might be tiny differences in efficiency, but it would be difficult to measure and quantify.

Having said all that, I like an electric pump at the back to prevent vapor lock. I also have a valve to pump gas into my chain saw, etc.

An electric fuel pump will probably save alot of wear on my starter motor. If my coach sits for any length of time, I have to crank it (not continuously) for at least 15 seconds to pump the fuel to the carb. There must be a check-valve missing in the fuel line.
