Now archived tech talk posting dated March 2, 2004 under rear tail light assembly available for Barth Regal via Transportation Accessories is no longer available. KD was the manufacturer under now discontinued part # 460-2801. KD, now Truck Trailer Lighting Products (440) 293-4064 has 1 red lens in stock. All other inventory is depleted. There are no bezels or complete assy's available at the manufacturer. (If anyone knows where 4 RED lenses are available or complete assy's, please advise) Dave V sssd90@earthlink.net

The tail light assembly problems is one of my biggest disappointments. The only manufacturer of the light, discontinued making them about a year ago. The president of the company emailed me about 10 distributors who had bought them over the last few years. He had only sold 6 or so the year before this discussion and that doesn't even pay for the setup. I called all of the distributors, (only 3 or 4 were still in biz) I found none available. I sold my last two to someone here on the website and I had bought twenty of the red lenses and sold them right away. Now that I am working a 40 hour job, (crap) I don't have the time I used to have. But what I was going to do is sit down with the KD part numbers and google all of the bus companies I could find, you know, repair places and just email or ask them if they have any stock. If they did I would buy all they had. I tried to find a similar light which would fit the space. I did not find an external fitting light. I did find one that was a three light setup and close to the real size but you would have to cut into the skin. ------------------

You may try these two web sites: Type in Bargman tail lights and then go to triple taillights #85 series. or type in Grote tail lights. They have horizontal & vertical styles. They are not the originals but I think they would make good replacements.

Thank you so much Jim and Barb. That saves me from a lot of searching this evening. Those are the closest ones I found but they are the recessed ones. I would suspect it wouldn't cost to much to have a machinist machine a offset S/S piece so it could be mounted on the exterior. I think this is the tail light which is used on some of the later Breakaways and mounted vertically. ------------------ [This message has been edited by davebowers (edited February 07, 2006).] [This message has been edited by davebowers (edited February 07, 2006).]

Still working-on putting together a tail-light design made of LED components. Seems like the best alternative to attempting to find something that will work in the original openings ...waiting for it to warm-up a bit to get-going on this. LED will last until we are all dead and most are made as a ballistic, sealed component, thus, the failure rate is slim to none. Mounting depths are typically fairly shallow. Will be converting the whole truck to LED except for the vintage roof-top running lights. rM

In reply to medic37. The Bargman site also shows they have the triple tail light available in LED, however I could not find the cost of it. You might possibly have to e-mail them. Jim

Bargman doesn't sell anything, they are the manufacture. You can go to Google and type in Bargman and get a ton of dealers. ------------------

Thank you all so much for your valuable input. I am just on a "mission" to replace my "pink" tail light lenses. Like you, I have also searched the internet and made several calls and send e:mails. No luck on the original part. HOWEVER - I did manage to talk with Jim at KD Truck and Trailer Lighting Products (440) 293-4064, ext 156 and he has searched and located about 100 Red lenses that he said will fit the original KD bezel. They are slightly tapered, however and are for the driver's side only. But, he says they will closely fit the passenger side when inverted. Apparently they are slightly different from the original part, but he says they will work. They are sending me 1 lens as a sample at n/c. I will experiment and see how they work, how they look and then report back. If they do work and if they are nearly identical, the minimum order is 100. I will buy 100 because that nearly depletes their inventory and there will be no more made by KD. Then, if a Barth owner needs a set, I will be happy to sell them to you at what I paid. (About $2.05 each) It is a KD Lamp, part number 3856-00. Dave V sssd90@earthlink.net

Regarding the Bargman tail light assy: I noticed that triple light assy on the internet as you mentioned, however, it is about 8 inches shorter than the original. It sure looked like a possibility at first but the original on our 90 Regal is 22 1/4 inches X 6 inches X 1 inch and the Bargman is only 14 inches. If the lens that I am being sent doesn't work out, I will either use those or I will find replacements at our local I75 Chrome Shop for Trucks and I will have a work associate mill replica bezel assemblies out of aluminum or stainless. Then the lenses will fit exactly and the entire tail light assy will be a direct bolt up fit for the Barth models. Dave V

I don't know how much of a problem it would be, but I suppose a person could have a machine shop make some kind of stand off that is the 14 inches long and then mount the smaller light on it. You could have the stand off piece chrome plated. So you would have $500 tail lights....it's a Barth.

This might work. It has a amber/ red and clear lense. Just tossing it out there... http://www.buspartswarehouse.c...log.aspx?ItemId=3022 It looks like it is the same dimension as what Dave posted in the archive.. Just not all red [This message has been edited by Bill (edited February 07, 2006).]

Thanks for that post - that looks like the taillights on my Breakaway! One of my lenses has already been replaced; the other three aren't too bad, but I'd like to rathole spares.. ------------------ Rusty StaRV II, '94 28' Breakaway, 6.5L TD 2 Not-spoiled Golden Retrievers.

Bill - Yes, that is the part we need. Unfortunately, that is the part that is now obsolete and they are no where to be found. I just talked with my business associate who builds custom show cars. He has access to any milling machine known to man. As I mentioned in my previous post, if the 100 lenses that are available from KD do not work out, I will sent my entire rear light assy with new similar lenses, whether they be LED or incandecent, to him and he will have new bezels made to fit. Then, the entire lighting package will be a direct bolt up and will be very hard to tell the difference from original. I have already made the contact this evening. The cost will not be that great. Give me a couple weeks. I just had 20 stainless steel Hummer H3 dummy fuel fill doors made for the Hummer 3 golf cars that we sell. Making a rear tail light assy for the Barth should be a piece of cake. Stay tuned. Dave V

I know you were talking about the lower picture which is red/clear/red. The upper (black and white) picture is red/clear/amber. I don't know if the top one is still available or not. I just found it looking thru the search engines. The bottom one I have not been able to find. If someone doesn't mind the amber part it should work for them... that is, if the amber one is still available.

While searching for the red/white/red, we discussed the red/amber/red. No luck either. Basically, they interchange the lenses within the bezel, but I think they did say they had amber lenses though. (I think). But I didn't need amber. Just the red turn that "pretty" pink! Dave V
