The propane furnace in our Regal has decided to squeal at start up, and start up seems to be lasting longer and longer. So, I've looked at yanking it out and while I know I can do it, seems a little complicated and I'd still have a propane heater when I was done. Don't really want to blow up the Barth yet. What do you think about switching out one of the roof a/c units with a roof heat pump? Do they actually make such a thing? One of my a/c units has a heat strip in it to take the chill off a cool morning but it really couldn't heat the whole thing in let's say, 45 degree temps. Then there's the thing about the ducts. It's sort of nice to have the warm air coming out at the floor in various places. Guess what I'm rambling on about is what are my options? If I'm going to go to all the trouble to rip out the furnace, I'd like to replace it with something better. Thanks guys and gals.

humbojb, the previous owner of my coach had a heat strip installed in my ac, seem like the charge was about $100. I have not used it very much beause I have 2 heaters and an olympic catalyic heater that had been installed also. Take care. Sky

I have heat strips on the roof A/C and have a compact space heater for the bedroom I run. They do fine down to about 30F, but I leave the propane furnace on and set for a minimum in case the resistance heat can't keep up. I also have vinyl blackout curtains for star parties, which help maintain the emperature (summer or winter).

Installing heat strips is usually quite easy (about 1/2 hour), if your A/C is prewired for them.

They do make heat pumps for roof air, but I suspect repairing or replacing the propane furnace would be more economical and effective.

Keep in mind heat pumps do not heat below (about) 35deg F and aren't very efficient below about 45deg; that's why most have auxiliary heat strips. If you want a new A/C, get a heat pump with heat strips.
