On my '88 33' regal - when ever I turn on the water pump and after it build up pressure, about every 30-40 seconds it cycles for a half dozen clicks or so. I've looked everywhere I could to check for a water leak. Am I correct in assuming that the pump should never turn on except when a faucet is opened? I want to put in a new sureflo 5.7 pump, but would like to fix the leak first if there is one. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Mine does that, too. Even after replacing the seals and valves. Install a shut off valve in the output line of the pump. If it cycles with the valve off, it is just internal bleed down of the pressure inside the pump.

Actually, it is a good thing, sort of a reminder that the pump is on.

Mine was doing the same thing. After searching for an hour or so I found the coupling from tank to pump was loose. Gave a good 1/4 turn with hand... it stopped.

Good Luck

just an update - replaced the pump this week with the shurflo 5.7 -- cycling stopped -- however this unit is supposed to deliever double the gpm at a higher pressure than the original 1988 pump but I just don't see it... water flow appears to remain the same...I must be missing something..

Your pipes are still the same size. I am replumbing mine, and the new brass fittings have an ID of less than 1/4 inch.
