Next weekend, my son-in-law and I will be converting our 28' two a/c,Barth Regal from a 30 amp service to a 50 amp service. It came from the factory with one a/c and 30 amps. A previous owner added an a/c in the bedroom, and it only works off the generator. The 30 amp box has one 20 amp circuit for the a/c and 5 15 amp circuits for everything else. We're thinking of a box that will have two 20 amp circiits, and maybe 6 15 amp circuits. Would someone with a 85 or so Regal with factory 50 amps tell me how their breaker box is set up? How many circuits, etc. We're going to use a twist lock connector mounted on the side of the Barth and a 30' 50 amp cord. If anyone has any more ideas, we would surely appreciate them. In fact, if anyone has the 110 wiring diagram for a 50amp 85 Regal, that would be fantastic. Thanks!
Jim

A 50 amp service will have two 120 circuits; one 220v circuit; two black wires and one white wire plus a green ground. Remember when you are NOT plugged into a 50 amp service you will only receive one of the two circuits via 30- or 20-amp service.
The 50 amp box will have two buss bars and a neutral bar. Only one of these busses will be hot when plugged onto 30/20 amp service, so important stuff must be on the primary buss.
I'd connect the existing load to breakers fed off the primary buss bar and new/unimportant stuff to breakers fed off the secondary buss. This may not be answering your question but think about how you are going to set this up.
You may wish to simply add a breaker box fed from the "extra" wire in your 50 amp shore cord and leave the existing box with the primary wire.

Will I also have to get a different transfer switch to go between shore and generator power? My Barth electrical drawings show the transfer switch receiving a black, red, and white wire from the power cord.
Thanks Jim

Some further info. My setup is a little wierd. It has two boxes. The second one originally had 2 circuits in it feeding two outlets, one in the living room and one in the bath. These circuits were activated separate from all others by plugine two plugs in the cord compartment into some extenal sourse. When a previous owner added the second a/c, they disconntected the two circuits and wired both a/c units in that second box and wired the second box to the primary box. there is a rotary switch on the box that you can turn to either "rear" or "front", to run one or the other a/c's. You can't run them both at the same time. I was thinking of using both boxes, the second one for just one a/c and perhaps a 15 amp circuit, and have all the important stuff on the main one. But I'm still wondering about the transfer switch. Thanks for your help.
