Mike/Cindi WSkid Wheels..anyone have them installed..
did a search and found only a few mentions of skid wheels ( rear frame/hitch area caster-type wheels installed to prevent major scrapes on driveways or steeper road entries) installed on barth rigs with overhangs. I wonder if anyone can relate their install experiences and possibly post some pic's of their mods on this..
tnx..Mike W

RustyI have them (installed by PO), and they do make contact, mostly on driveways into fuel stops.

I purchased mine at Camper world. It attaches to my tow hitch frame and is held in place with the same pin as the slide in portion of the hitch.
It works great and has saved me from bottoming out and damaging my exhaust tip extension.

Your Gillig should sit high enough that you should not need skid wheels.

Mike/Cindi WYou don't think this is too much of an overhang for some situations? I think my wheelbase is 218" so what would be my overhang? Maybe the airbags were down in this pic?

If the air bags are showing pressure your ride height should be checked. I am judging this by the electric step height at the entrance door. The step looks LOW. My Gillig shows more of the top of the tires when the air bags are in the transport or travel mode.

RustyThere will always be that driveway on which skid wheels will pay off, regardless of reassurances they won't.

KevinMike, take a look at the bottom rear bumper of your Barth. If there are drag marks on the bottom of the rear bumper, your coach may sit lower. The tail pipe looks like it may be the lowest point, so check there also. I am curious, if there has been any tail drag in the past 27 years.
Be aware of where you drive your rig and avoid drastic undulation in the areas you are moving you bus to.
