I have decided to replace my entry steps for a variety of reasons. I could replace with manual, as I currently have, but think it would be best to upgrade to electric/automatic steps. I am seeking advice on 2 separate issues: 1. Is there a preference of Manufacturer for electric steps??? I have been looking-at KWIKEE, as the top plate is a "full" top plate with several mounting holes drilled in it already -or- plenty of space to drill your own configuration of mounting holes, as my configuration is not "standard". KWIKEE also seems to be found on a number of the top-of-the-line coaches. 2. Since I currently have manual steps, I would have to wire DC to the steps themselves [that can't be too hard], but would also have to wire a control switch somewhere near the door on the inside [this may prove to be a bit trickier]. Any and all information would be helpful. Has anyone added electric steps themselves??? Should I be looking to have this job done at a shop??? ~Mac~ 1990 31 Foot Regency Spartan Chassis Cummins 6CTA8.3 Alison MT643, 4-speed 8905-0123-31RDS-A2 | ||

Most of the wiring schemes include a hot 12V connection and a wire to the ignition, as well as a warning light on the dash if the step's not retracted. Wiring one's not difficult, just tedious. Kwikee steps are fairly robust as compared to others.
