The rear output seal on my 3060 tranny is leaking. Has anyone had experience replacing this seal? We are on the road......I have brought a fair assortment of tools along. Thought I might tackle it myself if I can locate a seal. Looks like once I drop the driveshaft, I would need to take the yoke off,(transmission end), but I'm wondering if the yoke nut can be removed without benefit of an impact wrench. All advice appreciated

Why not just go to a transmission shop and have them do it? Sounds like a driveway task with proper tools and not much else.

I second that, I had a leaky rear seal seal on mine for some time but don't let yours go too long. Depends on how bad it is leaking!

I found a heavy equipment repair shop in Houston that did mine for $350 and that included the seal.

I had the rear "E" brake drum on mine and it took just a bit more than standard effort to do. I would have done it myself but for that price, no brainer.

Make sure if you have it done, to get a shop that is familiar with Allison transmissions.

sometimes it pays to cheap out and sometimes it doesn't. This is one of the doesn't. If the leak is not to bad, just wait until you get home.

To remove the yoke you will need an impact wrench and a seal puller.

Well coming from the mindset that I try to do and have succeeded thus far in doing all the maintenance items encountered so far on Big Sally, saving $250.00 in labor costs to install a $25.00 part is a motivator......but being in a Walmart parking lot without benefit of an impact wrench/strong compressor w/capacity, was a motivator to drive the hour up to Albany,(from Bainbridge GA where I discovered the leak) and have the seal installed at an Allison shop for $297.00 which was for parts and 2.5 hours labor,(rate of $106.00 per hour). Later traveling down highway 431 South it started raining, so flipped the drivers side wiper on......no action. Seems like the maintenance list can and will never be completed, but I still smile every time I get behind the wheel.
