The Saginaw power steering box on my Barth has a bit of slack, which isn't uncommon in worm and recirculating ball systems...anyone have special directions on how to remove slack, and specs on preload? Rusty, my Barth is an 84 and my pikkumup truck is a 95 2500. I would be happy send you a shop manual scan of whichever you think would help. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered

Thanks, bill h - I wouldn't need a scan, but if either has a Saginaw box, the specs for preload would be very helpful....I can tighten it down some on the ground, but I'll be taking it in shortly for tire balance, and could set the preload then. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then here is 4 grand: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/billat908/Steering95Chev1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/billat908/Steering95chev2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/billat908/Steering84chev1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/billat908/Steering84chev2.jpg This takes a bit of managing as jpg files to get them small enough and clear enough. Or maybe I am a klutz or my scanner is a relic. Would Acrobat be easier? Any links that would instruct me? . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered

Bill, the images came out fine (for others, just about any image processing program can resize .jpgs id needed) - these were just right as-is. It had the preload settings - just what I needed - I haven't explored it yet - I may just pull the Pittman arm and do it on the ground. Well, the Saginaw 710 on the Barth is different from the lighter vehicles - and the adjustment nut is on the bottom, with about 5/8" clearance to the front axle. So adjusting it requires at least loosening it and jacking it up to get tools in there.
