Tish and BobWhat transmission in 1988 regal with 454
Hi again,
I recently asked a question re the brake system on our 1988 Barth and you were kind enough to answer. My son, who is an auto mechanic, is going to be doing some work on our 1988 regal and has asked me to look through our Barth book to find out which transmission is in our unit. I've looked through my book, and found nothing, and I've looked through the documents attached to the site. I found one that listed power equipment, and paired the 454 with an MX1 3 speed transmission, however when I look up the MX1, it says it is a front wheel drive, so that doesn't seem right.
Do any of you know what transmissions they were using with this series?
Thanks in advance for any help.

J DavisI had a 1988 Barth with 454 Chevy engine and it had the GM turbo 400 transmission. I have seen it called a turbo 475 but it’s just a heavy duty version of the turbo 400. Hope that helps.

Tish and BobThanks! I would think they used the same transmission with that engine. Hopefully that's not a bad presumption.

I would second that opinion. The heavy duty 475 is identical to the TurboHydramatic 400 except for a few internal parts. They can be used interchangeably. The coach trans uses a different tailpiece with parking brake attached.

Thank you. My son said he thought that's what it would be, but wanted to see if I could confirm it.
