The second owner added a 30 gal aux tank to my Breakaway. The last owner (Vince) never used any fuel from this tank in 2 years. It is more than 2 years old should I look fir someone to pump it out or is it still useable if I pump it into the main tank. Thanks | ||

Stuff can grow in Diesel. I lived a sailboat a few years ago and I didn't use the engine much and after a year or two of not using the fuel I had to hire someone to pump all the fuel through a filter to clean it up or it would plug the fuel filter. I agree with RainCatcher. Considering this has been in very humid conditions for a long time, the chances of condensation in the tank suggests there is likely organic growth at the fuel-water interface. At the very least, the fuel should be removed from the tank and filtered. If there is growth apparent in the filters, the tank should be cleaned. There are products to kill the bacteria, but the remains have to be filtered out. Fuel polishers are designed to keep the problem from happening as well as fuel storage supplements. As Rusty stated, once you have an issue (or suspect one) you really must kill then filter.
