Not knowing when and if the original tranny fluid was changed in our Breakaway, I have decided to do the change. MD3050 Transmission. How many filters, how many quarts will I need to catch, how many quarts to plan on putting back in? Are the filters standard for this tranny or are there any differences to know about? Any "O" rings or seals I will need in addition? Going with the Transynd after reading recommendations from the members. Good source for fluid and filters purchase?

There are two filters and usually the filter kit you get will have all the necessary gaskets. Be careful, there are a lot of gaskets to cover a lot of different MD 3060 transmission cases.

The best time to drain the trans is after a long down time, a lot of the fluid will drain back into the transmission from the torque converter. For a complete change (there will always be fluid remaining in the torque converter) is about 19 quarts.

See this manual for a better understanding about changing filters and oil, starts on page 32.

Wow, thanks Ed for the manual. It has been saved and much appreciated. Thanks as well to Dana for the info on the fluids. Do you all have a preferred vendor that gives you reasonable prices on the fluids and gasket sets? And yes, my tranny is a 3060 five speed,(didn't see my error until after posting).

Search Allison dealer and go from there. There are truck dealers that are Allison Certified all over the place. I went by one on the way to a wedding and being the multi tasker I am picked it up then.

Reasonable is a subjective term here. This is not something you can get everywhere.

Is it set up for 5 speed or 6 speed? Most MD3060 are set up to be a 6 speed!

What selector panel do you have?

It is a five speed. Going to an Allison Dealer in Kingsport today to pick up five gallons of Transynd at $41.00 per gallon and a filter kit. Guess I'll get three five gallon buckets,(cut down to fit under the drain), ready to catch the old fluid. Wonder if Walmart has their kiddy pools on clearance,(now that would catch the mess!).
