Thinking about resealing my windows in the Regency to prevent unseen water leaking in. Appears this may be the culprit on Larry Brill's rust problem. The PO has done this before but you can see how the sealant dripped down the side of the coached leaving stain marks behind. Any recommendations on the best seal for windows?

I agree with Larry, Butyl Tape is the best. I keep a roll of it always hand in case of emergency sealing repairs.

Thanks for the tip... I will give it a try. Problem is, I am in Alaska for the next 3 weeks whithout my Barth. Also, just wondering.... how does one know they have rust or water damage without removing the flooring or wall covering?

Years ago I used 3M Windo-weld on my windshield. I just lifted the rubber seal as much as I could and squeezed in a bead. It's held so far, so now I'm removing the side windows and re-sealing with it. It's expensive, 18 bucks a tube, and gloves are a must. It's black, gooey, and takes weeks to get off hands. 3M 08609.

Every Barth is different, not just new from the factory but also in terms of wear and tear.

Sadly, it would seem that yours suffered the one-two punch of leaking windows, then repeated soakings over some period of time.

What a PITA way to start! confusion

I think several others are now motivated to check for leaks!

Good luck with the new walls and hopefully no more rude surprises. mechanic

I think my inner panels are aluminum - as are the bathroom walls.

Just about ready to reseal my windows. I ordered three 40 foot rolls of butyl tape from Tweedy's. Size is 1/8 x 3/4 wide. It seems that 1/8 thick would be too thin for the job. Any thoughts on this? Sould I double up on the tape?

After the winds are loose and the old sealant removed, snug the windows back up and check the gap. I suspect ⅛" will be plenty.

Depending on the temperature when you install, you'll have to re-snug the windows at least once.

Someone did ours that way in the '90s. Still good.

Good stuff. I use it from a can up top. I really like the way it flows and stands up to the sun.
