This is absolutely great information Dave! I know some people that still tow and do not have breaking systems in their toad! I also know first hand of a case where a guy was towing a small (Honda or Toyota don't remember) and while coming out of a rest stop onto a freeway downhill was passed by his toad that came lose! It went by him, up against the right bank and then swerved across the freeway, across the medium, across the oncoming lanes and off the road into a canyon. Fortunately no other car was hit or incident caused by this. He had a well known hitch system but no toad braking system, he does now!!

I plan on getting a toad before too long - and I wouldn't consider pulling one without its brakes contributing to the commune, nor without breakaway braking, too. But then, I also check tire pressure before each voyage, so maybe I'm just a fetishist...

Dave this is an absolutely fabulous post. In my business, I will not even rig a vehicle to tow without auxiliary brakes. I just do not want to deal with the liability issue when they plow into the back of someone because they chose not to buy a brake.
