We've never had any problems with our toilet, a SeaLand 910 but now the toilet seal doens't seem to be holding water in the tank. Any ideas? REALLY dread getting in there and changing the seal...yucko. And Gary's not here...and that is definitely a "blue" job. Susie

I presume you're referring to the seal in the bottom of the toilet bowl. I changed mine a few months ago. Bought the new seal at our local RV parts emporium. Not cheap, but a minor job for a shade tree mechanic.

It leaked for nearly a year before I got around to change it. No big deal as long as you keep the toilet flushed, & don't let the holding tank get too full.

This won't make me a friend of Gary, but you should be able to safely wait until he returns.

I changed the one on my SOB - took about an hour - the whole assembly came as one unit - about $110.

In the meanwhile, RV stores sell a "seal lubricant"; you might try pouring a little of that into the bowl and let it sit (until it leaks out).

We had a similar if not the same problem. I took a bucket of hot sudsy water and put it into the bowl and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. Then I got a handy dandy toilet brush and scrubbed everything I could reach. Flushed the toilet, poured in another bucket of hot sudsy water and allowed about half of it to seep through slowly. And then, took that trusty toilet brush, opened the bowl, and scrubbed as far as I could reach. Yukky, but it works. The clean water stays in the bowl now. AND I feel very sanctimonious about the whole thing. Give it a try or get someone else to clean the thing.

I understand that there is a hand shower attachment that I'm thinking about to keep it clean progressively rather than go through the above again. Look in the booklet -- or online? -- to see what I'm talking about.

Good luck.
