Anyone have any idea what the proper operating temperature for the transmission is for a 460 ?
What is the gauge supposed to read ? Mine is running around 200 degrees sometimes a little over.

200 is a little hot for level ground, but as long as you don't go over 220 or 230 on hills, you should be OK.

Thanks Bill. We just took a 700 mile round trip and she never went over 180 the whole time. She seems to run cooler on the open highway; more so than city driving.

Jack, that is quite normal. In town, the cooling air is slower, and the torque converter is putting out more heat from acceleration. On the road, there is more air flow and less acceleration.
