How dangerous is it to have a propane generator on the front of a Barth. Could a front end accident be like sitting on a bomb? I have never seen a propane tank placed in this location. Thoughts or concerns...or is this the way Barth Breakawys are.

Our 94 Breakaway has the propane generator up front. The flow of propane from the tank (located ahead of the engine and behind the rear axle)is controlled by a solenoid mounted on the front firewall above the gen. set. This solenoid is only open when the gen. is being started or is running. In the event of a front end collision, the only potential for a leak would come from a ruptured line - probably not a likely outcome. It could result in a fire - but I wouldn't consider it like a potential "bomb". A more vulnerable spot on most coaches is the propane tank with the associated regulator hardware which is typically mounted about bumper height along the side of the coach. I suppose the safest mode for travel would be to shut off the propane tank at the main valve, but this prevents systems like the 3-way refrigerators from operating on propane when in the automatic mode.

Thanks...this make it more understandable. This was the first time I had seen a propane generator and the first time in that location.
