Was at Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground with a friend a few weeks ago and I turned on the electric hot water heater (no sense using propane when I have 240V available). Got up the next morning an no hot water! Tried several times to reset the breaker, but to no avail. I could also smell hot burning electrical smell, not good!

This morning I dug into the water heater and found that one of the plastic wire ties had melted clean off and the live wires were grounded to a metal post nearby. Plenty of charing too. Stripped new wires and redid the electrical supply. Everything seems to work again, but I will be watching it carefully!

I think perhaps vibration rubbed a hole through the wire nut allowing it to ground out....maybe. I also repaired a section of the other power supply that was nicked through. Thought it a good idea to add this area to a routine visual inspection.

Additional note on picture: The bit of yellow is all that's left of the wire nut!

Bolts left out of slides on battery tray. wires touched alum skin on inside of door and burned hole into inside filler. Pulled into a large propane dealer. What a thrill for them and me when I got out to open door to pump in propane. Now have lock washers and rubber pad on door just in case. All who wander are not lost

Where is the reset for the hot water heater. I can not find a reset, I have a on/off switch on the side and the wires go into the thermostat and the heating element but there is no breaker/reset on the hot water heater. I have not been able to get the electric to work yet, the heating element tests ok and the unit has power to the switch.

I suspect it is an automatic reset but don't know how to test it?

My rig has a switch (ON/OFF) in the kitchen with a light to indicate power. There is an additional ON/OFF switch at the water heater on the back side under sink. The electrical breaker is in with the regular 110 breakers and is a 110V, single pole breaker. That is the only reset I've seen.

There should be a button on the side or top of the HW tank. This is an overtemperature breaker, and has to be reset manually, if there is one.

..........on Atwood water heater,the Robertshaw unitrol (combination pilot burner adjust.,lighting control,thermostat)has a reset pushbutton on top... this is an oldeer unit (1977) maybe this is no longer used.

well didnt know that there was both electic and gas ! does the 86 regency come equipped like this if so ill have to find it first day off from work!any info would help tks
