Keith Hoppercarpet experiment
Generator hatch gave in...replaced aluminum tracks with heavier gauge, refinished console and replaced carpet using Lowes indoor-outdoor carpet squares.
Before:
http://www.peachtreelearning.c...Barth_carpet_pre.JPGI like the idea of being able to replace just sections in high traffic areas...using this on steps too.

Lessons learned:
- The arrows on the carpet squares are there for a reason...it has a sort of grain and needs to be vertical. The glue stripes seem to take some time and traffic to adhere.
- Roberts carpet adhesive (Home Depot) works pretty well but it migrates to fingers and stays there.
- Barth used a LOT of staples installing shag carpet.
- Shag carpet can hide surprises...thin carpet has to fit exactly.
- Cutting the carpet is harder than expected because it has to be done from the back...so tricky patterns have to be reversed.

Steve VWNice Job!

Ditto on the LOTS of staples. I pulled the carpet in my kitchen/hall and replaced with vinyl, you are right about the need for a good fitting job. I am not that happy with the vinyl, I'm thinking laminate for the hallway and steps.
Keep up the good work.
