I have two 90w solar panels removed from another RV, with a control panel, that I wish to mount on roof. I'm going to fashion up some mounting plates so I can tilt them to the sun. I hate the idea of putting holes in my roof but it has to be done. My questions are: any suggestions for finding the cross beams; should I use self-tapping screws, or rivets, or (preferred) bolts with nylocks - but then how to get to the inside without ripping ceiling lining away?; how high off roof should they be mounted ~ 3 inches? I've seen the stripped out inside photos from D. Cagles' renovations and it looks like I won't blindly hit wires but it would be nice to hit the main beams.
