Had house refrig. Never again. Might consider a marine unit but like my absorbant unit.

Depends on your pattern of use. If you sit plugged in all the time, the home units are fine. On the road or boondocking they use lots of power and hold the cold poorly.

Dad had absorbtion gas frig for long time on his boat. When it finally died he tried a small unit designed to run on 110AC, with an internal 12VDC invertor for off grid. It ate up the batteries in a day or so. We had to run the boat engine or a generator often. Between minimal insulation and inefficient invertors of the day it was not a good choice.

Went back to the gas frig for years. Recently, Dad replaced the gas unit with a marine high end electric frig. Pricey but very good. Much thicker insulation and a 3 phase 12V variable speed design that uses much less power. Freezer -15, makes ice fast. He also installed 2 100W solar panels and they recharge the batteries fully each day. The frig can run indefinitely.

If you are willing to pony up for solar panels and a high end unit I might consider it. Otherwise my old trusty gas refrigerators have served me well. With periodic cleaning, very reliable and works well on gas and 110AC when parked.

Eventually , we will probably go with a nice marine 12 volt compressor refrigerator . But for now this one should do us just fine . A lot of our camping is at COE campgrounds that have electric and water . We like to camp in the off season when it's cooler and less crowded . We plan to do some off grid camping . If we have to charge the batteries , we'll run the generator for a couple hours a day . We plan to get a small inverter generator to charge the batteries when the bigger generator isn't needed .

I have not made a purchase yet. To explain why I will be PC incorrect to some. I hate sending my money to China. Don't consider a "tailgater" a necessity (as is mechanical parts and new underwear)so I'd rather look on Craig's List, eBay, etc.. Principles are a bitch.

Fully understand Smiler
We have to research just about every purchase to find
" Made in USA " .
It cost more , but I prefer help keep my neighbors a job .
Unfortunately , some items you just can't find made here , maybe some day that will change .

We just completed a 1300 mile round trip in the coach . The coach ran well and gave us no real mechanical problems . The house two stage vapor propane regulator had a small leak . A trip to Tractor Supply and about 20 minutes of work took care of that .
The first night was at Roosevelt State Park in Mississippi . It's a nice little park , we usually just stay one night there. Next was Foscue Creek COE in Demopolis Alabama . This is a very nice park on the Black Warrior River . The site we were on had a great view of the river . You can watch the river barges go by . From there we went to Pine Mountain Rv Resort for a week to attend the annual Wanderlodge Owners Group Rally . It was nice to see our friends and meet a few new ones . The total coach count was 110 .
The next park we tried out was Prairie Creek COE Park near Selma Alabama . This was a one night stop to scope it out . It was a nice little park on the Alabama River . Then back to Foscue Creek for two nights and then the trip home yesterday . It was a total of 14 nights and about 1300 miles .

It was a good trip , but a sad trip . Sam passed away two weeks before the trip . This was our first Rv trip without her . We originally bought an Rv so Sam could easily travel with us and she loved it . Now the coach and the house feel empty without her . With time the sadness will turn more to the fond memories , but for now it is mostly just sadness .

We are planning a trip to Arkansas in the next couple of weeks to see the fall colors .

My heart felt sympathy for the loss of Sam.

It does sound as if you are doing well in the coach, glad you are enjoying your travels.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our 18 yr old travel cat a while back. Not the same. He made it to about 30 states.

Our current rescue cat has been to 15 states and counting. He still is not as fond of travel as the previous cat but he is our buddy and goes everywhere with us.

RIP SAM. When pets die it in not fair. Pets should last forever. Carry your loss forward to great memories.
We buried four Weimaraner pets. The last was the most tragic, as we left the last Weimaraner "Bernie" in Florida.
On the other hand Harold, you are doing it RIGHT. No problems along your trip is always good. Thanks for sharing your list of places to stay here.
I met several Wander lodge Owners in my travels. Wander lodge was my other choice of motor coach, if I could not find a BaRTH. I believe there is a Wander Lodge meet in Shipshewana next year. Many Wander Lodge owners are intrigued by a Barth as I am intrigued by the Wander Lodge Coaches. They are a fun bunch of people too.
Good luck on your next trip.

I will talk with Dad and find out what supplier and brand he bought. I am on the road but I will get back to it soon. I am also interested in a couple more panels. I will start a new thread on solar panels when I get info. Thumbs Up
