I want to buy a new sending unit for our 85 Regal and have had no luck finding one. I've tried GM, Workhorse, Classic Industries and various other web sites. The original one still works, but it's 24 years old, a little rusty, and the tank's out anyway. The GM part number stamped on the sending unit is '25001387'. It's for a 40 gallon tank. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have replaced the GM unit with a universal adjustable sender a couple of times on this and that. A simple adapter plate of aluminum sheet will make it fit if you have the plate with holes around the edge. The adjustable senders are available for the GM ohm range of 0 to 90 ohms. VDO uses that range, as well. I found that the adjustability of the height and arm swing allowed me to fiddle until the gauge was really accurate. Much better than the bottom half going really fast as previously. When I drop my tank, it will get a universal sender, too. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered |

Bill, we found a company named Tri-Starr in Auburn, NY that actually rebuilds fuel sending units. They also can produce custom built units. The cost for ours is around $95 to $150, depending on what he has to do. That's more than a new one but when you can't find a new one--. The old one is probably OK but now that Tere's done all the work on dropping the tank, what the heck.
